Education and Inequality
In the research unit "Education and Inequality" an intersectional approach to education and inequality is pursued. For this approach social background, gender, race, migration, multilingualism, religion, sexual identity or disabilities are seen as relevant social categories in educational institutions. Where, how and by whom these categories are constructed and reproduced, how they are connected and how they influence learning and educational processes in educational institutions are questions that are addressed in this research unit. In addition to theoretical considerations primarily qualitative and participatory empirical research is carried out on these topics.
Specific subjects and questions are:
- Participatory research with children and young people in educational institutions
- Pathways in education
- Transitions in the educational system
- School- and educational dropout
- Effects of social inequality in out-of-school educational institutions
