Media literacy in the museum

Description

From March 2025, the Frida and Fred children's museum in Graz will be showing the exhibition Damals 1410 (Back in 1410). The exhibition will promote the media literacy of visitors through a story from the Middle Ages. The project will use accompanying research to investigate how the teaching of media literacy can be successfully implemented with the exhibition teaching method.

To determine the pedagogical intentions, interviews are conducted with the

1. exhibition designers. Subsequently, the
2. exhibits in the museum are examined and interpreted from a media education perspective. The project then focuses on the
3. visitors, who are interviewed before and after the exhibition in order to describe what new experiences and insights they take away from the exhibition.

The project is being carried out by students writing master's theses at the Institute of Education at the University of Vienna.
