The Philosophy of Education Research Unit engages in research on the foundations (constitution) of the discipline by means of critical philosophical reflection on the basic principles and central ideas of contemporary and historical educational discourse. From this perspective it engages against the socio-political exploitation of the science of education and supports a changed understanding of the systematic foundations of educational philosophy. In the field of teaching, the Research Unit strives to sustain and expand the historical interplay of understanding and tradition as a means for professionalising education experts.
